BROCKTON —
There have been two shootings in two days and the violence comes just ahead of Tuesday’s election, where crime has been a top issue.
Two people were shot Friday night on Taber Avenue, Brockton police said.
One of the shooting victims was flown by a medical helicopter to a Boston trauma center. The other was taken to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital after being shot. Their conditions were not immediately released.
Around 10:54 Friday night, Brockton police went to Taber Avenue after receiving a call from a resident.
Officers found two people shot, but the details surrounding the shootings were sparse.
A firearm that investigators think may have been used in the attack was recovered in the area.
Soon after recovering the firearm, police received a call that a man dressed in black and limping was running from the crime scene, through the Grossman’s parking lot.
Police said they later arrested the man, who was identified as John Intakoun, 23, of 144 Dover Street in Brockton. Police charged Intakoun with various gun and drug charges. The matter is still being investigated.
On Thursday, Brockton’s Campello neighborhood was rocked by a daytime shootout. Police responded to reports of gunfire exchanged between three vehicles around 1:30 near Ettrick Street.
With the help of witnesses, they found 21-year-old Jesse Veiga hiding on the roof of a home on the corner of Essex and Calmar streets.
He was arrested and charged with failure to stop, breaking and entering, reckless driving and other related charges, said Brockton Police Lt. Paul Bonanca. Veiga told police he was not involved in the shooting and knew nothing about it. Police have not yet identified any suspects in the shooting.
